Sell your silver to Scrap Gold Buyers
Broken or unwanted scrap silver may bring you an additional income if you decide to sell scrap silver. Many scrap silver sellers are interested in selling scrap silver but few of them know how to calculate the price and value of silver alloys. Of course, it is possible to catch the price from official resources that announce the prices for precious metals daily, but the price may change day to day and even in the couple of hours. The best way to sell scrap silver is to know a lot about the product you’re selling.
A lot of people think that scrap silver is only jewelry. Well, it’s not the entire truth. Scrap silver is any item of silver metal: silver earrings, bracelets (and other jewelry), silver pens, silver teacups, cigarette boxes, silver candlesticks, bowls, spoons and knifes and of course silver coins of any epoch. Most of the UK coins pre 1920 contained up to 93% of silver and the ones from 1920-th to 1947 were made from .500 silver (50%).
Measuring scrap silver in Troy ounces and grams, one troy ounce will be the same as 31.1034768 grams. When you sell scrap silver, you always have to remember that silver, as any precious metal, is not pure. Usually sterling silver (.925) is a mix with copper (0.75 base metal). Some amount of silver is lost during the process of refinery.
The percentage content in silver alloys of .500 is 50% of silver, .800 is 80% of silver, .925 is 92.5% of silver and the highest percentage is in .999 – 99.9% of silver.
Selling scrap silver is not complicated if you know what your doing. It’s possible to test your silver at home with the help of special test kit that contains a special acid for producing the reaction of metal. Another way is to give scrap silver to a scrap gold (scrap silver) buyer to check for you. Some scrap dealers buy stones as well, but the price for the stones will be equal to 1 gram of metal, so if you want to keep the stones, it’s better to take them out before selling scrap silver. If the stones seem to be valuable, then any jeweler will buy them from you for the proper price.
